Each year ITVS funds, distributes and promotes new programs produced by independent producers primarily for public television and beyond. ITVS is looking for proposals which increase diversity on public television and present a range of subjects, viewpoints and forms that complement and challenge existing public television offerings. All production funding requests must be submitted in accordance with ITVS guidelines.

The Soros Documentary Fund (SDF) is a program of the Open Society Institute NY, that supports the production and distribution of documentary films and videos dealing with significant contemporary human rights, social justice, civil liberties, and freedom of expression issues. Priority is given to projects addressing contemporary issues. The goal of this program is to raise public consciousness about human rights abuses and restrictions of civil liberties, to give voice to the diverse speech which is crucial to an open society, and to engage citizens in debate about these issues.

The primary purpose of the Robeson Fund is to support independent media productions that are not only compelling politically and artistically, but which must also be used as tools for progressive social change activism and organizing. How you plan to distribute your film, video or radio production is as important as the integrity of the project itself. Media artists who are women, gay men and lesbians, disabled or from communities of color or who have little recourse to other funding sources due to the controversial nature of their projects are particularly encouraged to apply. The Paul Robeson Fund for Independent Media has one (1) cycle per year. Deadline is May 15, award announcements are made in late August or early September. Although the maximum grant amount is $15,000, most grants range from $3,000-6,000.

Women In Film (WIF) is a non-profit organization for women in the entertainment industry. Through its Foundation, a modest amount has been set aside for grants to help support video and filmmakers whose long-term goals are to work in the entertainment business, and who demonstrate advanced and innovative skills consistent with the organization’s goals. The Film Finishing Fund of the Women In Film Foundation invites applications for production completion grants. Submissions are accepted for documentary, dramatic, educational, animated or experimental projects that adhere or relate to the stated goals of Women in Film
